Blog Post 7: Dont Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead 1991, Directed by Stephen Herek

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead was a movie that everyone I knew had seen. I must have missed out on this movie growing up. It seemed so dated and lame when I watched it. It was directed by Stephen Herek.  I did like the storyline though. I like the idea of the sibling rivalry working out and all of them becoming a team. It has definitely happened in my life before. It was relatable which made it more enjoyable. The clothes and values of the film did affect my viewing. It was a true 90s film.  Watching this rowdy family of five children, left to fend for themselves when their babysitter suddenly dies, was certainly amusing. The mayhem is unrealistic but that is why it is a movie. The only familiar face to me was Christina Applegate, who has definitely come a long way in her career and talent. This comedy was a bit of a stretch for me. I did not laugh much but that's probably only because the movie is so old now. It certainly is not a timeless film by any means.
