Alex Williams, Post #6, The Crying Game, 1992, Neil Jordan

The Crying Game was a very unique movie in many ways.  First of all there was not much background music throughout the piece, and instead most scenes only had natural noise.  This choice was interesting, because it made you feel like you were actually in the scene instead of watching a movie.  Also there were multiple artistic choices that I found to be very cool, such as the scenes showing Jody playing croquet, and the scenes that used excessive fog and mist, such as in the bar.  These scenes created a very cool style of lighting that I enjoyed.

Unfortunately my enthusiasm for this story ends there, I could not really relate to the story very much at all, and most of the character decisions in the end of the film seemed like it was very forced, and without justification.  (SPOILER ALERT) I did think that the big reveal of Dils penis in the middle of the love scene was absolutely hilarious, and this added a little bit to the movie, but not in the way it was intended.   After that point though I thought that the entire movie went down the drain, I think that a man can overlook alot of things in a girl for love, but a penis is not one of those things.  I thought that maybe he wanted to stay with her to make it up to Jody, but that does not really make that much sense because in reality there is no way that him and Jody became such friends in two days that he would be willing to spend the entire rest of his life with a dude in order to watch out for his old lover.

Anyways, I would not necessarily recommend this movie to anyone, unless they just want to laugh at the penis part.  I thought it was hilarious
